Reviving The Beast Part 2: A Clutch Thrash And A Trip Up The Hill!

Reviving The Beast Part 2: A Clutch Thrash And A Trip Up The Hill!

A little while back we showed you a cool video about the awesome Beast Of Turin being road tripped to Goodwood and now we’re back with part two. At the end go the first video we learned that after making the 100+ mile drive to the race track flawlessly there was a problem with the clutch of the car. What’s interesting is that the clutch is a multi-disc piece that is lubricated by graphite powder, the same stuff you have likely cheated up your kid’s Pinewood Derby car with (if they were ever in the scouts).

Apparently a leaking rear main seal or a leak somewhere in that area caused oil to get into the clutch and basically turn that graphite powder into a thick paste that was not allowing the car’s clutch to actually release. That’s not good, especially when they drove there to race the thing up the famed hill at Goodwood and then planned on driving the car home as well. So, what do you do? You put on your finest Edwardian-era clothing and get under there with your spanners, your sleeves rolled up, and your British stiff upper lip intact.

As you will see, the work paid off and the teaming masses at Goodwood got to see one of the most awesome cars ever restored thunder up the hill. We really dig the announcer’s call and description of the car, especially with his dignified British accent. Anyone can say the words, “belching fire” but when you hear them said in this manner, they carry a little more weight.

This video is yet another reason that we’re dying to get to Goodwood and see stuff like this in person!

The great Duncan Pittway strikes again!

But I wonder if he got an MOT for a car with no exhaust headers, or are cars that old exempt? Either way this is the best hot rod in the UK and just goes to show that you don’t need an LS to have a great car….

Geordie, are you a closer LS fan? For someone who hates them, you sure bring it up every time you post!

That aside, The Beast of Turin is such a wild contraption. Couldn’t image going over 130 MPH in that!

What I mean is that I am making a stand against the epidemic of building world class original cars and then sacrificing all that hard work at being different by sticking an LS in them. I am not nor ever will be a fan of something that belongs in a closet!
