Roadkill Takes On LeMons! (Again.) Does The Rotsun Have The Guts To Take On The Battle Of The Beaters?

Roadkill Takes On LeMons! (Again.) Does The Rotsun Have The Guts To Take On The Battle Of The Beaters?

The Roadkill crew have been here before. The 24 Hours of LeMons should be their haven, their safe home. It’s a race designed for beaters, the worse, the better…how could they possibly lose? Well, they can. Their track record for LeMons isn’t great…the last time they attempted with the former CarJunkieTV 1973 Plymouth Fury, they were dealing with driving the S.S. Land Yacht and shortly after Finnegan hopped into the driver’s seat, the Fury committed seppuku and left him stranded on the side of the track. The radiator wasn’t the only thing boiling over on the Fury that afternoon…Finnegan was pissed, and wanted revenge.

For this year’s attempt, they pulled a true beater out of the fold: the Rotsun. Their Chevy 4.3-powered Z-car has proven that when everything is going right, that it will run like a scalded dog. It’s also proven to be a solid bet for breaking down as well. It’s oiled down a Goodguys autocross, eaten all sorts of parts, and has been kicked around for a while. I’m pretty sure that a Viking funeral isn’t what Finnegan is thinking of when they choose to send the Datsun to the track, but between the car’s history and LeMons…well, things don’t look that great for the guys and even they know they are in deep here. They call in help: Tony from Hot Rod Garage and Josh Lucas are roped in to balance the odds in their favor…or to help push-start the car, whatever.

It’s just short of a full hour, so kick back, relax, and enjoy!

    This was a fun episode.
I have a feeling, though, that the Rotsun might get shelved for a little while after this.

Roadkill is such a great life lesson, set a very low bar, and if you trip over it…………..bonus……….fun episode

OK, the “rotsun” would have been able to survive the whole race, if Mike and David would have left the REAL engine in it.

It would also have made their NEW sponsors happy, since the old engine was, really, a re-worked Slant Six. (Not really, but it was an inline six cylinder, leaning to the passenger side, like the real Slant Six!)

Had a 72, and that car was a pleasure to drive. Engine was decent, and (get this Mike and Dave) the transmission was a jewel to shift! (And, I didn’t always use the clutch.)

Being a BIG Mopar fan, (most all of my cars have had a PentaStar, except that Datsun) I was surprised to see the carnage committed on this car!
