The Beast Of Turin Goes On A Road Trip! No Kidding, A 300 Mile Cruise!

The Beast Of Turin Goes On A Road Trip! No Kidding, A 300 Mile Cruise!

Since its unveiling the amazing Beast of Turnin Fiat S76 has been a sensation. The car was built in 100 years ago to shatter land speed records and it did so handily. The car was twice as fast as the fastest airplane of the era. Like all things in racing, what was cutting edge at the time was quickly replaced with newer, better, and ultimately faster technology. The Beast of Turin was brought back to life by an amazing group of artisans and craftsmen who worked and scrounged and created from nothing the parts and pieced necessary to make this blast furnace on wheels run again.

The very idea of taking it on a public highway sounds scary as hell only because it is. Thankfully car owner Duncan Pittway is like us and really does not want to see this thing simply sitting and collecting dust in a corner somewhere, only to be run a handful of times per year. Because of that he decided to drive the 150 miles to and from Goodwood on the public roads with this amazing car.

As you will see in the video below, the Beast of Turin is more than at home on today’s highways. in top gear at 1,000 RPM the thing will go 128mph. That’s not what he was looking to do but the point of the exercise is that the car was beyond capable of hanging with today’s modern traffic and road speeds. The multi-disc clutch hated the fact that it was being used so much over the end part of the trip and that caused the need for some thrashing when at the track but the road trip part of the deal seemed to go perfectly.

It is the best to see this thing sitting and idling at a gas station with fire barfing out the sides as they fill ‘er up. What an animal!

Duncan Pittway is well known to me. He is into all aspects of enjoying classic cars from driving this lunatic on four wheels all over the place to taking part in trials with a TVR of all things.

But with the Beast he has become one of the legends of British hot rodding as it is one of the first ever custom-built hot rods and is still blowing the hats off passers by today. Now take it to Bonneville next year Duncan and let’s all see what the old girl will do on the salt…..

That is epic! I’ve seen ProMods on the street at Drag Week but that car (and the 03 Merc with it) are wild. That flame spewing and hopefully not chain spewing (that’d hurt the elbow!) monster is something i’d love to see in person.
