The Week Of Convertible Largesse Continues – This 1968 Buick Electra 225 Rules

The Week Of Convertible Largesse Continues – This 1968 Buick Electra 225 Rules

With Dodge, Cadillac, and Pontiac taken care of, the next frontier of the massive 1960s/70s convertible realm I wanted to visit would be Buick. When I was a kid I had a little league coach who was about the most fearsome old man you have ever met in your life. His name was Max Beach and over the course of a couple of summers, he screamed and yelled me into a pretty decent baseball player. It was a great lesson in the value of coaching, the value of dealing with someone you were deathly afraid of, and how to get someone onto a subject you could both talk about.

With him that subject was his massive Buick Electra 225. His was not a convertible but as of the middle 1990s it was his daily driver and he cruised it to Florida and back each year. Between reminding me that I ran as though I had a “piano strapped to my back” and that I “could not bunt to save my life” we’d chat about his car. Talking baseball usually meant he was tearing me a new one but talking about the car meant he was bragging on how much attention he paid to it. Those were more fun talks. When I was 12 we won the league championship. It was a pretty big life lesson that you don’t necessarily have to like the people who are steering your life but you do have to respect them if they have your best interest in mind. But back to the Buick.

This car is as clean as a whistle. It has a rebuilt 430ci big block in it and if it were rebuilt to factory specs that means 360hp and 475lb-ft of torque. The color of the car is not our favorite but condition wise, this thing is tough to argue with. The interior seems minty fresh, the engine bay is as clean as a whistle and the AC even works! The starting bid on the car is $15,000 and we can’t find much to complain about there. It is not like these cars are that plentiful anymore and especially examples in this condition. The thing literally looks new. If it were painted in deep glossy black we bet it would sell for even more than the brown-ish color is it now.

So at this point which has been your favorite? The Pontiac, the Polara, the Caddy, or the freshly unveiled Buick? Spill it!

Love it! Before I bought my Skylark ragtop, I looked at a 67 225 rag. Then I measured my garage and it wouldn’t fit!
