This 1974 Plymouth Fury Sport Suburban Wagon Is A 400ci Powered, Wood Grain Equipped, Tank

The 1970s were largely a disaster for the domestic auto producers but they got a couple of big points right and those were pickup trucks and station wagons. Proof positive is sitting on the page in front of you. This is a 1974 Plymouth Fury Sport Suburan wagon and in all of its 400ci, wood grain paneling glory we think that the car is awesome. We cannot get over how clean the car is and how the Cragars look so great on the thing. While certainly not a hot rod, the 400 looks pretty good with an Edelbrock carb and intake on it and the interior of the car is factor fresh except for the big wrap thing on the steering wheel.

For us, the way to do this wagon right would be to completely go through the 400 and build a stroker out of it, beef the 727 Torqueflite, stick some gear in the back and actually keep with the Cragar look but maybe tweak the size a little bit. A Gear Vendors would be pretty gnarly and a six speed would be the ultimate swap in this thing. The interior cannot be messed with. It is just too good (outside of the steering wheel thing) to be mangled. You’d lose all of that 1970s wagon riding charm if you took that interior and hacked on it. Plus there is typically no way to make subtle changes to something like this and have them look anything like you’d want them to.

This would be a fantastic Power Tour or even a Drag Week ride if you had enough snot under the hood. With all of the speed parts available for that 400, we don’t think that making yourself 500-550 streetable, naturally aspirated power would be that bg a deal, right?

We’re in love!

this is one of those times I hope it doesn’t sell so it stays in the family that bought it new…..

I would just top that 400 with an EFI from Holley and add said Gear Vendors overdrive. Otherwise I’d leave it alone.

Neat old Wagon. Needs Police package rims and caps. EFI and an overdrive would make this one sweet ride…I’d drive the heck out of it.
