The Ultimate Kitbash: The Skeleton Of A Honda Insight, The Guts Of A Subaru SVX, The Soul Of A Porsche!

The Ultimate Kitbash: The Skeleton Of A Honda Insight, The Guts Of A Subaru SVX, The Soul Of A Porsche!

I love the weird ones, no doubt, but what you are looking at is beyond “weird”. I’m not quite sure what I can compare it with: the model car made up from parts from five different kits might be the closest thing that will work. It certainly applies, so let’s break down what it is that you are looking at. The overall skeleton of the car is a first-generation Honda Insight, a suppository-shaped little hybrid that had been damaged and promptly gutted. Why the Insight? Well, for what happened here, any shell would’ve sufficed, but the Insight is surprisingly light…if you went nuts with every possible option, a fully loaded, ready to roll example out of the door was just over 1,900 pounds before driver. Gutted of it’s hybrid system and virtually everything else, we can only imagine what the shell weighs in at.

With the hybrid system and three-cylinder dumped in the garbage can, we step to the second most interesting choice for the build: out back in the breeze is the 3.3L flat-six from a Subaru SVX mated up to a Subaru manual transmission…installed backwards, making shift time that more interesting. Front suspension: Crown Victoria with coilovers from a Hayabusa. Rear suspension: Pushrod. Bodywork: the most hacked rear flares you’ve ever seen. The Insight was built by Wreck Racing at Georgia Tech and is simply designed to do whatever the driver asks of the car: straight line, corners, or to stop so they can run far, far away from it. It howls, it’s primal, and it’s as pure of a driving experience as you’d ever get to have. It’s a freak, and I love it. Enviro-geeks might foam at the mouth if they ever saw what happened to the eco-friendly Insight, and I love it even more.

The evnviro-geeks would foam at the mouth?

Those stinking self-righteous car-hating scum would spontaneously explode!

For that reason alone this is the car of the year for me on these hallowed pages.

So now I want to LS swap a Honda Insight… That being said, what happened to the rare as hens teeth SVX? Please tell me it got a WRX engine transplant and is currently prowling the streets in all of it’s Subaru halo car weirdness.

Spontaneously explode? Ok, mass email/spam this to all the vegan sites you can find. They’re so weak from not eating meat, they can only whimper before they explode
