Video Bonanza: AJ Foyt Being AJ Foyt In Multiple Racing Situations — Including His Legendary Indy 500 Wrenching Footage!

AJ Foyt is a man who can rightfully be considered one of the best race car drivers in history. Built like a tree stump and tougher than a six dollar steak, Foyt won as many races with pure skill as he did with pure balls and determination. He’s the only driver who can claim wins at the Indy 500, Daytona 500, Le Mans, and 24 Hours of Daytona. Hell, he won the Indy 500 and Le Mans the same year! We’ve found a bunch of great Foyt footage for you to revel in. Some of the footage shows him driving the wheels off of cars, some shows him beating his own cars with wrenches and other footage shows him being blinded with rage and headed to lay a beating on a race that slammed the door on him or wrecked him out of a ace.

Being that today’s the day that the 2017 Indy 500 will be run, we thought it appropriate to highlight Super Tex.

This is all top shelf Foyt stuff!

Here’s a great synopsis of his racing life, although it is a bit on the sappy side. It’s part of the hoopla before the 1991 Indy 500.

Here’s a cool recognition of just how good AJ Foyt was by a guy who knows, the late Smokey Yunick.

Here’s some legendary footage from the 1982 Indy 500. If you want to soak it all in, feel free, but if you want to see the good stuff, pick it up around two minutes and watch the lead up to AJ getting out of his gazillion dollar Indy car and beating it with a hammer and screwdriver. This is epic.

Remember the 1987 Oldsmobile Aerotech? Foyt drove it way past 200 mph with the Quad4 motor, setting all kinds of records. Here’s some totally bitchin’ footage we never knew existed of the whole deal going down. The soundtrack is horrific.

Here’s some vintage pissed off Foyt after being crashed out of a race by Jeff Andretti. This interview was shot and presumably run un-cut and live on national television. Know what happened? Not a thing. No one freaked out, no governmental agencies went into overdrive, no kids had their ears melt off and America didn’t split in half, only to be consumed by a pit of hell fire. To say that Foyt was completely and utterly pissed here would be underselling it. Note the voices of Mike Joy, and Gary Gerould here.

LOL…the Jeff Andretti clip is great. And the difference in pit times between ’82 and today is crazy…
