Vintage Kart Drifting Video: A an old school twin engine kart hangs the tail!

Because of the popularity of “arrive and drive” karting facilities many people think that kart racing is some sort of newfangled thing. Those people are very, very wrong. Go kart racing has been serious business for a long time. Guys like Captain Jack McClure gained national fame and stature by racing karts like the one you will see in this video. The dude driving this twin engined rocket has some real deal skills and he’s fun to watch. If you are wondering why the kart has two engines it is pretty simple…more power! Today’s small engines are way more powerful and efficient than those of 40+ years ago, but there is no denying that it looks and sounds awesome with a pair of engines back there.

Prior to seeing this video, we’d never watched an old school go kart driven in anger like this. Having a little bit of seat time in a modern shifter kart we have an appreciation for the skill necessary to be fast and the dude wrenching on the wheel of this baby has plenty.

The small tires, forty year old chassis and suspension technology mean that this kart like to spend plenty of time sideways. Drifting one as this driver does takes a deft hand and plenty of skills. Karts will swap ends faster than you can say the f-word on the way around, the racer in the video never loses it once.
