Despite its completely insane and dangerous demeanor the sport of figure 8 racing can be profitable, meaning that racers competing in Figure 8 contests at local stock car tracks can actually win stuff. Be it money, a case of oil, a trophy, etc, they are racing for a win, glory, and a paycheck. That being said, this has to be the most dangerous and off the wall style of racing in the world. Hell, even the direction they run is scary because it sets up T-bone wrecks with the driver’s side of the car! This video is three minutes of the hardest hits you’ll ever see in sportsman style stock car racing, bar none.

Craziness aside, driving in one of these races (some of which pay up to $20,000 to win) takes some real stones. As you’ll see, guys treat the cross over section of the course like people screaming to run a red light. Hammer down, blinders on, and praying that no one is timed to smash into them as they speed across it. Unfortunately for everyone involved in this video, their strategy fails miserably. A side note to go along with this is that it isn’t just the initial T-bone impacts that are creepy. Secondarily, the smashed cars become unguided missiles and then go on to crash hard, usually head on, into the track guard walls!

We’ve watched Figure 8 races, but can say with 100% certainty that we’ll never, ever compete in one.
