This 1950 Power Wagon Will Kill The Purists But It Is One Capable And Gnarly Off Road Machine

This 1950 Power Wagon Will Kill The Purists But It Is One Capable And Gnarly Off Road Machine

This is one of those trucks that will have people cranked up pretty wildly in both directions. The purists will bemoan the chopping up and modifying of a sweet 1950 Dodge Power Wagon and the heathens (in this case people like me) will be fist pumping when looking at the angry, capable, and straight up bitchin’ appearance of this rig. From the big rig headlights that were lifted from a Peterbilt to the bead lock wheels that carry 39.5″ Irok radial tires, to the Warn winch on the front, and finally the4 near 500hp LS engine under the hood….errrr….whoops. Did we say LS engine out loud? Yeah this truck has one. We just heard some of you screaming, hey we didn’t build it!

Behind the LS engine is a TH400 transmission, an Atlas transfer case, a Dana 60 up front and a big GM 14-bolt out back. The suspension is pretty awesome as well with King coil over shocks around the truck including the 14″ remote reservoir jobs all around. The rear is a triangulated four link while the front is a three link using a Panhard bar. The shocks are adjustable so they can be tuned for driving on the road or off of it. Built by Legacy Classic Trucks in Jackson Hole, Wyoming this is a nice rig. Everything that comes out of their shop is top shelf and they are especially known for their awesome work with Power Wagons. From Cummins powered models that look like slightly freshened versions of old rigs to stuff like this, they are one of the, if not the premier Power Wagon shop in the country.

Wondering about the bed? It was left off in this case but the company says that they can build you a nice five foot truck bed and install it for a mere $13,000 over the asking price of $79,950. Hey, why not right? With al of the metal work involved in chopping the top, all of the parts involved in every aspect of this truck, and the sheer cool factory, I’d pay if I had the money. This thing rules pretty hard.

What part of that truck did Dodge build? I’d buy “Dodge-bodied” truck, but that’s neither a power wagon nor a dodge… it’s kind of cool, though (why an LS in something that needs mountains of torque?)

and I thought I was semi, anti-LS. Wow. the offroad crowd loves the LS for good power, cost (in stock form), and its ability to fit into almost any engine compartment. I say as long as I don’t have to look at the motor….its good. Torque….? I’m sure it has plenty. Is it a 300hp, 800ft/lbs diesel….? Nope. It will still get the job done. It’s a stylish piece and I’d run it if I had that kind of coin to throw down. Sure does beat the looks of the garden-variety jungle-gym buggies and truggies.

We’ve got at least one of these Legacy built Power Wagons here in New Zealand. It’s almost identical to the truck pictured including LS power. Caused a big stir on it’s debut at Beach Hop a couple of years ago.
