Best of 2014: This 1958 Ford Two Ton Dually Project Is Awesome And Less Than A Grand Asking Price!

Never have two states starting with M been so far apart. I’m talking emotionally here folks, not physically. This truck is for sale in Montana, I live in Massachusetts. I want this thing so badly it physically hurts to strike the keys writing this blog item. Longtime readers will remember my big truck Goliath which was essentially the same thing as this truck except it was a mid 1960s Chevy that got the pickup bed treatment. This truck is a 1958 Ford two ton job that has had the frame bobbed (maybe a grain truck to start with?) and a 1958 Ford pickup bed added with dually rear fenders. The stance is spot on and the whole thing would look fantastic painted up in a chalky red color with some lettering on the door. Mother of mercy, this one is going to keep me awake.

All is not perfect on the truck, though. There were some rust patches made on the cab floor (which aren’t a huge deal), the engine “should” run, there is no master cylinder, and there’s other small stuff to fix. For $875, this seems like a bunch of truck and yes, some work on top but who the heck cares. At the end of your efforts you’d have this thing to rock down the road in. We’d get the Y-block running and cruising so we could drive it as we were building a pissed off FE big block for it. A Gear Vendors would help the undoubtedly steep gearing issue, and some taller rubber would give a little more cruising speed as well.

Like my Goliath truck, the reason I love this one is the proportions. It is right on all levels and looks to be a big, man-sized Tonka toy. This is awesome, right? This is something that should be giving me night sweats, right? This is something I should not mention to my wife…right?

Thanks for the tip Ben Becktold!

I think I’d put some alcoas, a big ole nasty Powerstroke (gotta stay ford in a ford), tuck it as much as possible on some super single rears…. Oh baby it’d be sweet.

oh my god that is awesome. i’m still in the planning/wishing stages of doing something similar to my 1952 F2. i agree with the powerstroke option too for pure uniqueness.
