Grandpa Time Capsule Barn Find: A 1978 GMC High Sierra Crew Cab Dually We Lust For

Grandpa Time Capsule Barn Find: A 1978 GMC High Sierra Crew Cab Dually We Lust For

Take a look at this! Everyone of you out there reading this had an old man neighbor who had the perfect truck that only got driven occasionally and who primped and prepped it non stop. That dude owned this 1978 GMC High Sierra Crew Cab Dually. It’s awesome! Sure it’s got some wear on it, but overall it’s in mint condition. The patina is very very light, but cool, and the interior is in amazing condition. And how long has it been since you saw one of these with the original hubcaps on them?!? Yeah, this thing is greatness. And while the Camper Shell sucks there is a thread of old man in me that wants it. If for no other reason that to convince Daphne we should “hang out” in the back. Oh and to embarrass the kids by driving it up to their school. Yeah, I want it.

I can’t believe it has almost 140,000 miles on it, but it does. Although the 454 was rebuilt at 120,000 miles, probably because the old man thought it was time not because it stopped running well. As I said before the interior is near mint and the paint is pretty good considering it spent it’s life out in the world. I’d pressure wash it under the hood, put an intake and throttle body fuel injection on it, find me a Gear Vendors, and lay this bitch on it’s nuts. I’m talking frame on the ground hammered. I’d even consider leaving the hubcaps on it! Who am I kidding, I WOULD leave the hubcaps on it. The bug deflector would have to go though. I hate those stupid things!

Here is all the info from the seller. Give it a good home.

I had to re-list this truck because ebay found that the buyer that won this truck was a fraudulent  buyer .  sorry for the inconvenience bid with confidence thanks.   This truck is a real barn find I bought this truck from an older woman that lives a couple miles from my house in Corning, Ca.. It was her husbands truck he passed away about five years ago.  This truck has been parked in a barn sense then.  Driven a couple of times a month to keep everything working.

He bought this truck at a car lot in Corning, Ca. in the mid 80’s.  This truck is in excellent original condition.  The interior is almost perfect, dash has no cracks, all gauges work, seats are like new with saddle blanket cover.

The engine was rebuilt at Lydon Johnson Motors in Corning, Ca. at about 120,000 so engine has about 20,000 on it.  The truck has 139,000 on it.  Runs excellent. The truck has a 454 engine with auto transmission.

It has an insulated camper shell on it. Wired with lights. The camper shell is in great condition.  This truck does look like it came out of a time capsule.

I put a new thermostat in it just to be safe and a new alternator.  It has a small exhaust leak on passenger side exhaust manifold. The rear fenders have some rock chips. There is some surface rust on the firewall behind engine.   The filler neck on radiator were the cap screws on has a small crack.  That is all I can find wrong on this truck.

Also have original tail gate that goes with truck.

  1. Tiresmoke!

Change fluids, belts/hoses, check the tires and brakes……a GV unit makes sense….other than that, hose it off and drive it as-is! Pull the boat or open car trailer behind, the camper shell looks mint….

  2. Darin

This truck is begging to pull an open trailer with a race car on it like Brewster Baker in the movie ‘Six Pack’.
