There is something about expedition rigs that just turns our crank. Ever since I was a kid reading about the Turtle Expedition, because of the stories in my favorite off-road magazines and especially the build of the Turtle III in 1988, I’ve thought that expedition campers were cool. I always think that heading off in any direction and driving until you can’t and then turning another direction, would be awesome. And a rig like this Steyr Puch Expedition RV could be just the ticket for that. We have to say, that we would make a couple changes, but overall this thing is super rad.

If it was ours, we’d make a change or two, come on we’re hot rodders, but overall we’re in love with this thing. The inside seems perfect, comfortable, and able to keep you alive in most conditions. The drivetrain, although not particularly familiar to us, sounds pretty good as ell. What we would probably do is make some kind of changes for a bit wider tire for certain conditions and also see what gearing changes we could make for a better on road experience since it only does 55 mph. I think the simplest option could be a Gearvendors overdrive unit.

It also seems to need some lighting, so we’d get with Shaun at ANZOUSA for some LED light bars, spots, and the like. The stereo in the cab of the truck also looks a little shy of what we’d need, but we’re glad there is a dog bed for Otis to hang out on. We’ll also need to ad some camera mounts and such for live streaming races wherever we go.

As great as this beauty is, 12mpg and a measly 55mph maximum speed would put off less adventurous and left field buyers – but aren’t they the people you go on an adventure to get away from?

Hate to state the obvious, but can’t we just change the ring and pinion in both diff’s to give it a better top speed?
Sure, you can’t pull a house down anymore, but 55mph problem solved.
