If Fitzgerald Had Any Brains He Would Have Built His Blazer Like This Guy – Meet The 1978 MaliBlazer

If Fitzgerald Had Any Brains He Would Have Built His Blazer Like This Guy – Meet The 1978 MaliBlazer

So Fitzgerald finishes the Blazer and it looks all nice and stock and original. If you are into that kind of thing you probably really like it but let’s be honest here, he took the safe way out. If Craig really wanted to do something forward thinking, memorable, and (although this goes completely against the grain of his existence) cool, he would have followed in the footsteps of the heroic individual that built this car, the 1978 MaliBlazer. The name is pretty accurate as what you are seeing is a 1978 Malibu set atop the drivetrain and chassis of a K5 Chevy Blazer. This one has a push bar, some fog lights, and a full on camouflage paint job that Craig could only dream of. Yes, he did paint his Blazer himself for short money using guile, Rustoleum, a roller, and some patience but if he were to ever park it in the woods when hunting game it would stick out like a sore thumb. This thing practically has a ghillie suit on.

This tip was provided by Brady Basner at Powermaster Performance, the manufacturers of fine starters and alternators for all kinds of stuff, even cammo Malibus on Blazer frames. As you would expect, this trar is powered by a 350 Chevy engine and backed with a Turbo 400 transmission. The chassis they used was a full time 4WD Blazer so that means that there’s a beefy chain driven NP-203 transfer case living underneath the floorboards. Again, if Craig had sacked up he could have had something as neat as this thing but instead he got a pristine, stock, good driving K5 Blazer. What a chump.

Here’s the ad listing in case it disappears –

I have a 78 Malibu on a 79 Blazer frame. It is full time 4WD. It has a 350 ENGINE with a 400 Turbo trans. It has a new camo paint job & not a back yard spray can job neither. It is done rite & has a flat mat clear coat finish over it. It has a new windshield & new steel cowl hood. Runs & drives good to have these big mudders on it. It will surprise you. Interior needs a little work. Don’t want to trade for anything but a 40 Hp or bigger diesel tractor. Thanks

How does a 350 ENGINE differ from an everyday 350 engine? Also, there’s probably nothing to fear from the guy not being able to correctly spell “matte” and “right.”

    Mmmmm. Trar.
Needs to lose the camo and just paint it flat black, though, with a small silver pinstripe down the side.
I wouldn’t mind EFI under the hood, even a 4.8 with some bolt ons & 4 speed.
Damn, I need to build a trar now.
