Physics Be Damned: Lee O’Donnell’s Front Flip In The “Mad Scientist” Monster Truck!

Physics Be Damned: Lee O’Donnell’s Front Flip In The “Mad Scientist” Monster Truck!

Mad Scientist, or mental and in solid need of a psych exam? Many fans who attended the Monster Jam World Finals 18 in Las Vegas, Nevada certainly wondered after seeing Lee O’Donnell’s parting trick. The driver of the VP Racing Fuels “Mad Scientist” Cadillac Escalade monster truck had a pretty solid run going in the freestyle competition, with good jumps and a wall backflip, but when he went from a jump, to a wheelie, to a front flip that he actually landed, that’s when hell broke loose and the crowd went insane.

If you think that this trick has been tried before, you are right: Tom Meents did a front-flip in the Max-D monster truck in 2015, but officially, his effort didn’t count: the truck over rotated and did not land on all four tires. That means that O’Donnell’s front flip is considered the first official front flip at a Monster Jam event. And it means that other drivers now have a new goal to achieve at an event!
