Just when you thought the guy at the Hydraulic Press Channel on YouTube would run out of ideas, he concocts his most genius test of potentially deadly strength yet! In this video you will see a coil spring from a Toyota Corolla placed into a press and mashed with like 100 tons of force. There’s 50,000 ways that this thing could have gone wrong but it did not. The press operator took some steps to make the whole thing safer by placing a piece of steel round stock through the center of the spring to keep it fro flying out. The one thing that the guy makes clear is that he understands it is dangerous and he makes mention of hiding behind some steel plates to protect himself as the test is going on.

Like most of the stuff he has done with his press, this is fascinating to watch. There’s an element of not knowing what’s about to happen and an element of knowing what may be about to happen that makes this stuff interesting. There’s also the element of wanting to know what is going to happen to the Slinky as well.

In true fashion the result is kind of what you would expect but with a least a slight twist. The guy’s commentary is among the best part of the whole video (as usual). His Finnish accent is a great piece of flavor to the whole thing.
