If You Were The One That Bought This 1957 Mack School Bus, How Would You Modify It?

If You Were The One That Bought This 1957 Mack School Bus, How Would You Modify It?

There’s a lot going on with this 1957 Mack school bus and frankly we’re in love with all of it. For starters, when is the last time you have seen a 1957 Mack school bus? The iconic B-model Mack trucks have long been favorites for us and we have seen them as fire trucks, dump trucks, and other styles but NEVER as a school bus. The B’s big, round front fenders certainly jive with the lines of the classic school bus body and the whole thing looks pretty great.

The stock running gear is present and the school bus body seems to be in remarkably good shape for being 60 years old. The bus was last used as a tailgating vehicle for the family of a football player on the Rensselaer Poly Tech football team. The subtle paint job may be a slight hint to that fact. It wold be no big thing to bomb this bus another color but the real questions go beyond that.

We’re thinking that we would go ahead and plug a more modern Mack diesel engine into the bus and certainly a modern modern multi-speed transmission. The old gas motor may not be the greatest power maker that mankind has ever known but with a dual range, 18 speed box behind it, that thing would do some good work. We’d also hollow out the middle of the thing and make it into a mobile BS office. Colors? Please. You know what we’d do.

Now…what would you do?

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

Swap in the modern Mack motor and 18-speed trans then, put in a camper interior then paint it in camouflage for the ultimate backwoods motor home!
