This jet engine on a test stand makes an (un)expected exit stage left

We’ve shown you near-catastrophes here with turbine engines before on BangShift, including some chaps who nearly let one get away from their makeshift test stand on a forklift pallet. However, not all jet engine test stand mishaps are near-misses. It’s unclear where the General Electric J85 in this test video was being run up, but from the outcome, we sure hope there were no human beings in the lab or in any adjacent room for that matter. There’s no sound in the video, which is unfortunate not just because we like turbine noises but also because the collective four-letter-word shouting was probably impressive.

We can, however, imagine how the post-incident conversation phone call to the lab owner went from the side of the lab supervisor:

“Sir, it’s Jenkins over at the test lab.”

“…We’re, uh, we’re going to need to requisition another J85. We, uh, had a failure on this one.”

“…Well, not a turbine blade failure, as such, though it’s likely that a few of the blades might be damaged.”

“…Well, you see, it kind of, um…you know, flew off the test stand at full throttle.”

“…I’m fine. I think everyone else is fine, though the lab coats might all be ruined.

“…As soon as we find which room in the building it ended up in, we’ll be able to figure out what can be saved.”

“…Yes, I understand.”

“…Actually, sir…I, uh, can’t really pack up my personal belongings because they’re all currently on fire.”

The jet engine had just heard that Project Butthound wanted it for their car as all their sponsors had deserted them due to all the bullshit and delays..
