I have long espoused that Petrolicious is one of the best channels on YouTube for car videos and they continue to crank out tasteful, interesting, and beautiful work as proven by this video that features an automotive photographer and his classic Land Rover Series III truck. The video was shot on the Pismo dunes in California as well as in some of the famous concrete “riverbeds” that the LA River flows through. You know the places from shows like Chips Patrol, movies like Terminator II, and all different kinds of stuff over the years. The main thing that struck me about this video was the fact that the guy shares my feelings on what it means to have an old, basic, rough riding, frill-free truck. There’s a simplicity and toughness about it that isn’t matched by anything else.

The cool thing about this guy and his truck is that he spends his days shooting lots of really high end, wild stuff for sale at auctions around the world so the fact that he really wanted one of the most basic, boringly styled, cantankerous, and generally pokey trucks that he could find is pretty cool. As you will see in the video, he uses the thing as his base of operations on photo shoots, he claims to drive it nearly every day, and it fulfilled a childhood idea that he had in wanting a car or truck that could simply drive over everything.

Land Rovers are ultra tough and share many traits with our own beloved Jeeps here in the USA. Serving roles in military, adventure, humanitarian, exploration, and other capacities, they’re as iconic as they come with toughness is a critical factor in the voting. This one happens to be a 1973 Series III model, which is important to note if you are a Land Rover freak but otherwise you’d probably not be able to tell the different from one decade of Rover to the next. Like he says in the video, “I just wanted a truck with a tire on the hood.” We can surely respect that.
