Pulling Action Coverage: The Piedmont 300 Was A Rocking Good Time – Killer Trucks!

Pulling Action Coverage: The Piedmont 300 Was A Rocking Good Time – Killer Trucks!

(Words and photos by David Whealon) – Pullin’ season is in full swing and we were on hand again for this year’s running of the Peidmont 300. Located in Winston Salem, NC at the Dixie Classic Fair, the NTPA Region IV UPOC pullers again put on one heck of a show.  The track was hooking as good as it gets thanks to one of the UPOC regulars. Stephen Walker who is a puller himself in the Light Four Wheel Drive class has been hosting this event for many years. Stephen and his crew spent several days prior hauling in load after load of Carolina red clay to groom the track to perfection. We had seven different classes on the property to take their one and only stab at yanking that multi-ton sled to the ultimate distance. No qualifying here. It’s one and done. The good size field consisted of Super Farm, Four Wheel Drive, Mini Modified, Light Pro Stock, Two Wheel Drive, Light Four Wheel Drive and Super Stocks. With about 40 hooks per night the shows went on with plenty of non-stop action with only a few stoppages for the usual carnage of blown engines, bent chassis and running gears puking out parts.

If you Bangshifters out there love horsepower and torque as I know you do, you have to check out one of these shows. Yeah I know there’s no smoky burnouts or mind-blowing times and speeds. But with turbos, blowers and carbs in the house you can’t go wrong. Besides they do have some killer wheelies to enjoy along with that sweet horsepower symphony.
