The concoction for a successful rock bouncer is pretty much the same: a stout suspension setup hooked up to a roll cage that can take punishment by the ton, with the appropriate large rubber bolted on at all four corners and an engine powerful enough to fling the buggy’s weight around like it isn’t anything to worry about tucked away somewhere nice and safe within the ‘cage. We’ve shown you how capable these rigs are, as they fly up hills that wound give a mountain goat a slight pause and occasionally come rolling right back down. We’ve seen them go mudding. We have even seen them do a trailer pull with little to no consequence. They are badass machines, no doubt.
But if there is one swipe we can take at rock bouncers and their owners, it’s that they are …well, a little redneck. I don’t mean that completely pejoratively, it’s just the truth. And in that spirit, here’s the redneck’s answer to Ken Block’s Hoonicorn. This is the Rum Runner. It’s powered by a 408ci stroker LS that is pushing 700 horsepower around. It is pissed off, and it is chained to a loaded dump truck. And driver Scott Goforth has this itch in his right foot that just won’t go away. I’d far rather watch them do what they were built for – if you want to do a burnout just put a wheel and tyre on a powered shaft and rub sandpaper over it or something.
What a waste – now I’ll stand by for comments from all the good ol’ boys about what a miserable bastard I am….
Seems like a waste to me. Not sure why someone sees this as accomplishing something. Watching a minivan chained down doing a burnout is more entertaining.
A mini van does not make that kind of sweet music. Smoke them if you can!
Not for nothing, but a polished concrete floor, and 1/3 contact patch of a rock crawling tire, of course it will smoke the tires w/700 HP.
