The 2014 Mint 400 didn’t go as planned for Robby Gordon. He blew his truck up and that was that, but thankfully before the munched up transmission, there was this glorious three minute video clip made from a camera mounted on the hood of Gordon’s race truck. The view is cool and the sound is a deafening V8 scream, two elements that make this video well worth the watch. While we cannot see Gordon working behind the wheel, you can get a sense of the aggressive, never lift driving style that has made him such a fan favorite over his career. Gordon is one of the few guys left capable of driving all different kinds of stuff and being proficient, to boot. He’s competed in the Indy 500, tons of stock car races, and he’s most well known and most successful in the realm of off road racing.

To us, the early part of this video is the neatest because the speeds are low enough that wind noise is not a factor for the camera, but later on when the speeds get up there and the dust is so thick that you cannot see six feet in front of the truck the entertainment comes less from the sound and more from the “holy crap this is fast when you cannot see” perspective. People wonder where Gordon got his fearless racing style on asphalt and the fact is, even on the worst day Gordon can see where he is going in a stock car or open wheel car. This video ends when the transmission fails in Gordon’s truck but for a little more than 3-minutes, you’s sitting in the best and coolest seat possible. The hood of a desert racing truck with a screaming V8 motor, suspension with more than a foot of travel, and a driver who has proven time and time again to have nerves of steel and balls to match.
