Russian Off-Roading: Where Slogging Through Deep Water And Mud Isn’t Just Part Of The Fun…It’s The Only Way To Go!

Ever wondered what it’s like to go off-roading in other countries? I did, and decided to look around YouTube and see what I could find that was interesting, and immediately this footage of some trucks working a water and mud crossing somewhere in Russia caught my attention. Two of the vehicles should be familiar to you: the Suzuki Vitara (we got it as the Sidekick in that body style) and the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, which we got as the Montero Sport. The third vehicle is a UAZ Hunter, a modern version of the UAZ-469, Russia’s answer to the Jeep. And in the way is a small pond with some trees around the edge. The water doesn’t seem too deep and the mud is soupy, but you’ll see three distinct driving styles: the Suzuki takes the safe way out, pulls in as far as the driver dares, and then shuts down and winches across. The Hunters take a “screw it” approach and go for broke, which works for most…except the one truck sitting in the middle of the pond. Any takers on whether or not it’s hydrolocked? Watch the Mitsubishi…this might be the first time someone hydrolocks an engine by ramming water into the exhaust!

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

He who has the biggest balls wins!

Th UAZ was built for this sort of terrain and they certainly don’t need no cautious drivers to chicken out after 2 yards and cry for the winch!
