Testing A Jet Powered, Homebuilt, 2,700hp Land Rover Truck On A Dirt Road Is A Bad And 100% BangShifty Program

Generally speaking, we’re in favor of jet engines on pretty much all the things. Why not, right? A little thrust never hurt anyone. That may be 100% incorrect and misguided but we’re standing by it and apparently the guys in this video are sticking by it as well with their jet powered Land Rover truck that accelerates a lot better with a 2,700hp turbine on its back. The M701 Motorlet engine that is pushing the truck down the road actually came from Czechoslovakia and was used in a jet trainer from the early 1960s right through the late 1980s. About 10,000 of them were made and these guys got one. We are not sure where the people that shot this thing are based but judging by the accents we saw in some of their other videos, they appear to be Canadian.

While this jet engine certainly doesn’t compare to a massive J-47 or something along those lines, it is still a pretty gutsy little piece. You will see all kinds of trees and stuff being blown around as the truck zips through the dirt road that it is being tested on. Yes, these guys were running a thrust powered Land Rover that they really didn’t have totally scienced out yet down a two rut dirt path in the middle of nowhere. Seems legit to us. The driver claims that he touched speeds in the 75-80mph range during this test day before they rolled it back in the shop and worked on it more.

Whether you think it is dumb to be doing this on a dirt road or not, you have to admit that the truck looks pretty awesome with the engine sitting on the flatbed and shoving it down the road. This is a full on zombie fryer!

    Awesome!

What’s interesting is the fact that the jet looks very like the one used in the Gloster Meteor – Britain’s first jet fighter. This was made by Frank Whittle’s Power Jets company with input and assistance from Rover.

The Czechs would have produced a close copy of the engine – and who would have thought it would have ended up on of all things another Rover product!

What goes around comes around – now let me get back to fitting a space shuttle rocket to my Suzuki jeep……

Rolls Royce RD45 “Nene” engines were given by the Brits to the Soviets (?) after WW II. A Soviet copy appeared in the MIG 15 that devastated American bombers over North Korea until the North American F-86 appeared.
