These Two Camelot Cruiser Custom Trailer Homes Had To Have Been The Most Opulent Rigs Of The 1970s

These Two Camelot Cruiser Custom Trailer Homes Had To Have Been The Most Opulent Rigs Of The 1970s

This is some Evel Knievel levels of 1970s awesome right here. These two rigs have been burning up social media over the last day or so and for good reason. Built by the Camelot Cruiser company you will see a 1970 and a 1974 model that have been kept in incredible shape at least outwardly. They are complete and utter time capsules from the shag carpet to the avocado colored appliances. the trailer homes are huge and large enough for one of them to have a speed boat sorted under it!

The trailer homes are pulled by C-series Ford trucks which amplifies the level of awesome by a measurable factor. Ford C-series trucks were among the longest produced commercial trucks in history with a 33 year production run that started in 1957 and ended in 1990. Mechanically they did not change all that much in 30 years aside from engine options and transmission options adapting for the time. These trucks likely have big gasoline engines (remember Ford offered a 534ci gasser) or they have a Caterpillar, Cummins, or even a Ford diesel engine in them. Interesting to us is the fact that it looks like this truck has a straight transmission and there’s no auxiliary unit stacked behind it. That means that big speed wasn’t part of the program.

The insides of this trailer are tacky and old and weird but they are also amazingly well preserved. It does not look like a horror movie inside. We just know that you’d have to be really dedicated to the 1970s in order to live with the way this thing looks. We cannot speak for the condition of stuff like water tanks, the cooking appliances, or the rest of the plumbing. We just know that these are jaw droppers and they had to have literally stopped traffic when they were new.

We have searched high and low for information on the Camelot Cruiser company but have come up dry. Anyone out there know ’em?

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

    Those interiors!

All that is needed is two women and a man with a droopy mustache and sideburns, some cheesy organ music and last but not least a VERY friendly Doberman……….

  2. Slades Mobile RV

We have over 20 years in the RV industry and we’re familiar with some of these older systems. It was a honor to be invited out to inspect these two beauties. Unfortunately, finding parts could become an issue if repairs are needed. Upgrading systems would be more cost effective “down the road.”

  3. Nick Arnold

The Camelot Cruisers were owned by Dick Edler who also owned Edler & Co. Skokie, IL. You might try there for more information. Dick has retired from the company.
