This 1951 White Moving Truck Has A 427, A Turbo 400, And Tiny House Potential For Days

We’ve got to admit to kind of loving this old truck. My wife and kids watch the tiny house show religiously and while they occasionally do something neat on there, we think that this rig has the potential to be something pretty neat as far as a tiny house or motorhome. It needs lots of work to actually be anything but the story of this truck is pretty cool and the eBay link has some really sweet old photos the rig from when it was a moving truck, then kind of a huge street rod and it was then bought by someone who was going to make it a motorhome and then kind of didn’t. It was used to deliver cabinets and now the cabinet maker is selling it.

Some of you may be thinking that there’s no way anyone was making a truck that looked like this in 1951 and you’d be terribly wrong about that. Look at virtually every manufacturer of this era and you will see the fenders, grills, and look of something that appears to have come out of the 1930s. There was some really awesome design work in trucks of this era. While there are instances of dramatic looking trucks today (we’re looking at you International) back then these things were really cool looking.

The truck has a two speed rear axle so if the Goodwrench 427 is not hauling the freight you can kick it into low range and creep up the hills on the highway. Downsides? The truck currently has no brakes, it needs a full restoration, and we’re not really sure who would be capable of designing a living quarters in the back of this baby. The tires seem to be halfway decent, though.

It has the looks of a movie prop. It has a big block Chevy engine. What’s not to love?!

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

Designing living quarters would be simple – all it takes is imagination. There are many specialists who offer kits that could be adapted or could do a complete installation. All it needs is the brakes fixing and it would be good to go. A sympathetic tidy up and mechanical fettling would be better than a full restoration and that lovely patina could be maintained.
