Best of BS 2017: 1967 Film Shows How The Pieces Of The Saturn V Were Moved To Florida and It Rules

The Saturn V rocket remains the most powerful man-made vehicle ever constructed and it was the bad ass hot rod that carried the USA to a victory in the Space Race with Russia. Like any hot rod, it required parts to be built and those parts were sourced from different places around the country. The “shop” where the whole works was to be assembled was in Florida to when different components and sections were built they had to be tested and shipped over. Vendors from all over the nation worked on this project and in one of the most forgotten parts of the Apollo program, someone had to figure out how to get all this stuff TO the final assembly area. Sounds easy…it wasn’t.

This video shows how the work was achieved and it was not just by crafty highway routing. Nope it was by literally building airplanes that the pieces would fit in to fly them from California, building docks, canals, locks, and dredging rivers down South, and then building roads and vehicles to drag stuff around as well.

The bottom line is that the Apollo program’s successes in space would not have been possible without some crafty, gutsy, and expensive thinking here on Earth. The mundane makes the incredible happen and that’s exactly what went down here. Watch and smile at this neat footage.
