This 1969 Cadillac DeVille Station Wagon Is The Thing I Want Most In The World Right Now

This 1969 Cadillac DeVille Station Wagon Is The Thing I Want Most In The World Right Now

Yes, it is still for sale. There is so much right with this 1969 Cadillac DeVille Station Wagon that I can hardly stand it. The ad claims that this car was one of five constructed for GM big wigs to use or be shuttled around in at the 1969 Indy 500. Presumably they got some work over the course of the month of May at the speedway. The car seems to be virtually perfect. There are some paint chips according to the eBay listing on the car but that really would not slow me down from bidding if I had the means to do so.

Powered by a high compression version of the 472ci Cadillac engine, this thing was rated at 475hp and 525 lb-ft of torque. The car ran the quarter in a shade less than 17-seconds so it was no stormer but the thing has to clock in at well over 5,000lbs with all of the additional steel added to create the wagon body. The interior is simulated alligator skin done in a nice tan color that pretty much sums up what any rich dude would have wanted in 1969.

The hardtop wagon look is really awesome and that is doubly so when applied to a car that “never was” one. Why Cadillac never officially produced wagons through the 1960s and 1970s is beyond us. The cars look amazing and while they would have been more expensive, they would have sold in limited quantities. Maybe they figured that they did not need the hassle or extra work. Either way, this ultra-limited edition model really spins my crank.

I would not change a damned thing on this car. I’d drive it as is or a while, build a slightly warmer 500ci Caddy mill to plug into it, just snotty enough for it to run high 13s and call it a lifetime with the nice high compression 472 waiting in the corner to end up in the car again.

DO WANT.

I’m blowing the BS whistle on the Indy 500 claim. Chevy paced that year and had plenty of full sized wagons on hand for big wig duties. No need to make any customer Caddy wagons for that.

They are not as rare as purported here. There were actually many of these made. There are at least 3 around me in South Carolina, and none of those three are this car. So if the numbers in the story are correct, then 4 of the 5 are still around, and 3 are in SC.

I am pretty certain these were uncommon but regular production.
