This 1972 Dodge Coronet Crestwood Wagon Is A Seldom Seen Early 70s Barge!

This 1972 Dodge Coronet Crestwood Wagon Is A Seldom Seen Early 70s Barge!

The first thing you need to know is that this whale of a car, this 18-foot, iron 318 powered, nine passenger, glass laden, 12.4 mpg rated, one of 6.471 produced 1972 Dodge Coronet Crestwood station wagon weighs 598lbs less than the curb weight of a Challenger Hellcat. We’re not kidding. This baby shipped at 3,850 and the Hellcat ships at 4,448. How freaking insane is that?

The Hellcat would beat this thing to the quarter mile stripe as its massive front fenders were reaching the eighth mile clocks but the reality is that we may rather have this wagon. Are we crazy? Hell no, we’re just looking at pound for pound potential here. The Hellcat will set you back about $70,000 and this thing will set you back $5,500 to start. You could build a really awesome torque churning big block, upgrade the trans and rear end, spiff up the suspension and have something that would either hang with or out run (helloooooo nitrous!) the damed 707hp Challenger whenever you felt like it for way less than half the price. Also, imagine the glee of rolling up on a Hellcat and engaging in an impromptu acceleration contest with someone sitting in the rearward positioned seat just slowly waving as you humiliated the owner on the way down the boulevard.

This car is stupid clean, stupid nice, and we’re not sure we have ever actually seen another one on the road. The hood scoop, while well intentioned has to go and a big block needs to be sitting under the hood. If you have the jack, a hemi could be swung into this car without that much trouble and if you wanted maximum wow factor that would be the way to go.

OR, if you are truly bucks up and just want to make a point, put an Hellcat crate engine in this thing and slay them at their own game. This is a truly sweet car.

What – no fake wood and hideous brown paint?

That’s fine so stick a 426 Hemi in it, beef up the brakes and suspension and go off scaring soccer moms on the school run!

Yep, sweet ride. It even has the right colour. You could sell the 318 to make a down payment on the crate motor!
