Oh sweet mother of mercy! I have no qualms in telling anyone that will listen how much I love these big rig hot rod contraptions. The idea of taking a super tired old truck and chopping it down, slamming it, stripping pieces off of it, and making it look like some sort of crazy hot rod is super appealing to me. This one takes things a step beyond most because the mondo diesel engine was chucked out of the truck only be be replaced by a Chrysler 440ci big block. In all actuality, I like to idea of keeping the huge diesel, but in this case, perhaps the engine was junked and this was the cheaper option. Whatever the reasoning, that addition of the gas big block and the associated sounds that it makes must confuse the hell out of people when this truck gets cruised down the street, right?

The chop on the cab is nasty. The thing really does look mean from a front and side profile withe the big sun visor coming off the front of the roof like the brim of a baseball cap, shading the eyes of the driver in the truck. The choice of narrow, tall, knobby rubber is also cool and adds to the tough appearance of the truck. I am kind of enjoying the fact that the paint on the hood is all worn and flaking as well. As mean as this thing would look painted in black, there’s something about the dead paint on it now that makes me smile. Hell, the thing could be pink and yellow and I would still be into it…who am I kidding?!

The 440ci Chrysler engine looks pretty much at home under the hood and it appears to be a stocker. No shiny speed parts on it or anything of that nature, but that is a situation that could be remedied easily. The truck has a 4.56 geared Dana rear end in the back and an automatic transmission that we’re guessing is a Torqueflite. With power brakes and power steering, it would be easily to bomb around in, visit your local cruise nights, and scare old ladies in your town with regularity.

The view from the back may be the most aggressive of all. The tall tires look cool as sets of duals, the coil over shocks are exposed and there was a nice effort made to add a panel covering the gas tank and everything else that lives behind the cab. Inside said cab it is pretty spartan aside from the comfy looking cloth bench seat. We’d throw some buckets in there and rehab the dash but other than that? We’d drive it as is!

What do you think? Cool or lame? Think more and more of these rig rods will show up?
