This Bombardier Wrecker Has A 15-Ton Winch, Tracks, And A Look All BangShifters Can Love

Bombardier was born in the 1930s up in Canada when one man’s idea of building a vehicle that could drive over snow was realized. Over the years the design was refined and changed until it was pretty much optimized into a rig that could handle snow, muck, mire, swamp, and pretty much whatever else you threw at it. Like any good utility vehicle, many variants of it were ultimately built. Some were built to haul people, some were built to haul trailers, and a scant few were built to haul stuck stuff out of ground that made quicksand look like firmly set concrete. This is one of those vehicles. That’s where this Bombardier MM68 or “Muskeg” comes into play because it was built as a tractor that could lift, carry, drag, or dead lift stuff to safety. We have never seen another come up for sale and while there may be some indication that these are still on the market new, this thing was pure zen when we laid eyes on it.

We think that this one is powered by a Chrysler slant six because most were back then. We know that it has a 15-ton winch on it and the vehicle weight is 8,500 lbs if you were to drive it across the scales. The seller wants $15,000 for this example and you may balk at that on first glance but think about it. We know guys in the recovery industry who charge thousands for off road tows. It wouldn’t be six months to make your money back on this thing if you played your cars right and live in the proper part of the country, right? Snow, mud, stupid, this thing is capable of treading over all of it!

The seller even included some cool photos of the machine rescuing some sort of field service truck from a mucky grave and perhaps the best photo of the batch is the one with the Muskeg driving up big rig mounted ramps to be transported to the next “work site”. Outside of the obvious, which is hauling stuck vehicles out of places, you could use this thing to skid logs, pull stumps, and whatever else you wanted. I think I am working up a pretty good sales pitch to me wife, right?

Oh man, this is 100% BangShift approved!
