(By Greg Rourke) – Pickup trucks sure have come a long way. And so have the way the salesman tries to get you to sign on the dotted line to start your 84 easy payments. Witness this Dodge trucks sales training film as proof.

We open with a salesman who may have had a few highballs for breakfast, as was the custom at the time, he seems to be discussing sales techniques with a voice in his head. He tries his luck with a coal and ice dealer who couldn’t be less interested in a Dodge. He only buys Chevrolet, as does all the local farmers. Why? Because some local tightwad (think Mister Potter, but a road builder rather than a banker) only buys Chevys, and everyone thinks he has all the answers. It seems he buys Chevys because they are the cheapest trucks. He all but throws the hapless Dodge salesman out of his office so he can back to barking orders into his old timey phone, but then has a very slight change of heart. He offers to sell a blown up Chevy six long block sitting outside his office for a good price. It seems he just spent (gasp) $100 on a rebuild, but a misaligned oil squirter killed the engine in two days. What a Dodge saleman will do with a dead stovebolt six isn’t completely clear, but the curmudgeon constructor thinks maybe he can fix it.

Back to his sample pickup for our discouraged salesman, probably wondering what time the local tavern opens.  Fortunately, the cartoon voice in his head gives him a pep talk, and he’s back to pestering the cranky contractor.
