Watch Gregg Godfrey Set The World Record For A Semi Jump At 166ft During Evel Knievel Days In Butte, Montana (In-Truck Video!)

Evel Knievel became famous jumping heavy Harley Davidson motorcycles over distances, gaps, and objects that no one saw possible. He hailed from Butte, Montana and rose to be an international star of the highest order. Although he has since died, the specter of Evel Knievel looms large still over the people of Butte and every year they put on an “Evel Knievel Days” festival that always has some primo entertainment as part of the program. This year it was trucking company owner and confirmed mental patient Gregg Godfrey jumping a really heavy Freightliner truck 166ft to set a new world record. The truck is caged and Godfrey is nestled into it but to us, that fact pales in comparison to seeing it fly hundreds of feet through the air and smash down on the other side in spectacular fashion.

As you will see, the experience of stopping the bastard after landing was nearly too great a job for him and there was a local building that nearly caught a case of Freightliner poisoning as the full sized rig slid sideways to a stop. We do not know what the lengths are to keep a truck like this flying high and flying evenly for this distance but it was one of the more balanced jumping machines we have ever seen. It landed square on the wheels and Godfrey was able to haul it down post flight.

We have two videos for you below. The first is an overhead angle that shows the trucks flying and racing as they normally would. The second video is a quickie but it is in-truck footage from the jump and it is pretty awesome as well, maybe moreso if you are wondering what the hang time was like. We don’t know the road status for this jump but that truck had a BIG head of steam on it when it was coming though the town on its approach to the ramp. We’re estimating 80mph or so which is a lot of one of those trucks to be honest.

We could say more, but why? These videos say it all!
