Watching This Jeep’s Body Get Ripped From The Frame Is Both Awesome And Jaw Droppingly Stupid At The Same Time

Watching This Jeep’s Body Get Ripped From The Frame Is Both Awesome And Jaw Droppingly Stupid At The Same Time

The first question we have here is why would anyone try to pull a Jeep sunk in silt that is like concrete try to pull a vehicle sideways? Were they just going to flop the Jeep on its side and drag it to the high ground that way? Was there no place to put a truck ahead or behind the Jeep? Was the guy in the pickup just out for blood and ready to cause the complete and utter level of destruction he actually does? So there’s all of that but then the second question surrounds the strength of how a Jeep’s body is mounted to said frame because as you will see in this video, the thing rips off like a flipping Band-Aid. Outside of watching two monster trucks pull a car in half we have never really seen anything like this happen before. Yes, we have showed you videos of axles and components being yanked out but for the whole body to be ripped off the frame? That’s a new trick on us.

The one thing that this video actually illustrates is the death grip that muck can get on a truck mired in it. Anyone who has ever buried a truck to the axles in slop can certainly tell you how much of a biatch it can be to free the thing, especially when you have to slog in there and dig yourself out. Stepping into deep, sloppy mud and trying to lift your foot straight out will often lead to a shoe at the bottom of the hold and your sock covered foot dangling dangerously above the goo. Why? There’s lots of suction created and when you try to lift your foot you are basically trying to pull your foot from an airtight seal at the bottom of the mud hole. They were trying to do the same thing with a truck and the suction was so great, it turned out to be stronger than the hardware holding the body on the Jeep. This is nuts.

If you do, I’m first in line to attend. I know a few basics but would appreciate more experience and guidance.

Your local 4×4 club is a great place to start. I also attended the Army’s vehicle recovery course which was awesome, we got to do some really cool recovery lanes there like rolled over vehicles, and multi-linked snatch blocks etc. You can get about anything out with a land anchor, a pulley and a winch. The MRAPs get stuck ALL of the time. My favorite “recovery” in the field was a downed UAV (A big one) Had to cut the wings off to get it on the PLS.

I’ve often joked with my buddies that someone with the land should start an off- road fun park. Teach classes and rental surplus CUCV/HMMWV for folks not wanting to risk their rig. The park could also host truck/tractor pulls, and maybe a dirt track for seasonal income. It’s kind of a dream of mine but it takes a lot of capital to buy enough land.

Maybe you could partner with an existing OHV park. I had a friend who attended an offroad skills school partially sponsored by Toyota, they ran new FJCs when they were the hot-ticket item and I think they operated out of Johnson Valley OHV park.
That would be a real dream job, to run offroader/outdoors skills summer camps across the nation.

Did they simply find an abandoned Jeep and decide they’d tear it apart for some reason? The whole “pull the Jeep sideways” thing at the beginning makes zero sense.

If that body came off that easy the thing was unsafe to start with. Them idiots did the boy a favor.

I gotta ask – were they intentionally trying to rip this Jeep apart?
I’m hoping so, because if all those people standing around actually thought what we just witnessed was a good way to free a stuck vehicle, then there’s a whole bunch of people out there in society who should never breed.
