eBay Find: A Wooden 1950's Sports CarBy Brian Lohnes Posted 03/10/10
We were stopped dead in our tracks when we laid eyes on their weirdly amazing car. It is a completely wooden sports car, powered by an odd-ball motorcycle engine, and sitting on a Citroen suspension system. The car was built by a west coast boat constructor and was modeled after sports cars and race cars of the day. Talk about one of one! Read More >
Party at Big Daddy's House and Everyone is InvitedBy Brian Lohnes Posted 03/10/10
We got wind of a cool car show coming up at the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing in Ocala, Florida and figured we'd pass the word along to anyone that can attend. It's free to check out as a spectator, so we'll need to enlist one of our BangShift.com bretheren to hit the show and snap some great photos for us to build a gallery of and show the world. Hell, we'll even throw in a free t-shirt to the first person who sends us good photos to run! Read More >
Announcing The First Speed by Spectre 341 Challenge, a High Speed HillclimbBy Brian Lohnes Posted 03/10/10
We love the guys and girls at Spectre Performance. They're proud sponsors of BangShift.com and more than that, they are as hard core as they come in the gearhead world. They ran 330 mph with a Caddy powered streamliner at Bonneville last year, have a fleet of truly awesome cars, and now have announced that they are putting on an insane high-speed hill climb in Arizona this June. This event makes the sauce of the Silver State open road race look weak! Read More >
Hilarious Video: A Crazy, Dirt Track, Big Rig Race at the Webster County FairBy Brian Lohnes Posted 03/10/10
Talk about grassroots racing. Take an open area, throw some huge old equipment tires around the edges and center of said area, form an oval about a quarter mile in length, and allow people to race big rigs around it. Where the hell do we sign up? This is friggin' awesome. Read More >
Speedy Says: The 11 Styling Elements That Suggest High PerformanceBy speedzzter@blogspot.com Posted 03/10/10
"Maximum Bob" Lutz's revival of the Pontiac GTO was a flop. Yet essentially the same mechanicals repackaged into a square-shouldered, wide-mouthed Chevrolet Camaro SS--along with its volume-building V6 companion--have proven to be a grand slam hit. Read More >
Crazy Video: A Turbocharged Camaro That Hates to Have the Front Tires on the GroundBy Brian Lohnes Posted 03/10/10
This incredible video, showing Texan Kevin Cram in his twin turbo'd Camaro, beats all we've ever seen. Powered by a Proline Race Engines-built big block Chevy, and obviously dialed in by someone who knows what they hell they're doing, this car simply refuses to keep the front tires on the ground, at basically any point on the Houston Motorsports Park eighth-mile course. This is 100% BangShift.com approved mania! Read More >
New Aluminum LS Race Block From RHSBy Brian Lohnes Posted 03/10/10
Forgive us if there is drool on the screen. We're slobbering over this new cast aluminum LS race block from RHS. It features all the stuff that you'd expect from a hard core cylinder case in the form of a raised cam centerline, priority main oiling due to redesigned oil galleys, standard and tall deck options, and a thicker deck surface. In a word, this is one bad ass block. Read More >
Crazy Wreckage Sequence: A Dragster Pulls a BackflipBy Brian Lohnes Posted 03/09/10
While our eyes were trained on the 52nd March Meet, the IHRA was holding their second event of the 2010 season down in Louisiana at State Capitol Raceway, March 5-7. One of the things that the IHRA revived this season is the Elite 8 shootout, which pits the quickest eight qualifiers in Top Sportsman and Top Dragster run them heads up against the other quick competitors in their respective categories. Racer Alan Jones provided some excitement during last weekend's action. Read More >
Edwards to Face Punishment for Wrecking Keselowski on Purpose in AtlantaBy Brian Lohnes Posted 03/09/10
When Carl Edwards lined up his ramming sights on Brad Keselowski's car last weekend and sent him flying in the air toward the catch fence, NASCAR was faced with its first challenge to the "go git 'em boys" attitude they have taken towards the 2010 season. Not surprisingly they weren't impressed with Edwards' actions, and most likely even less so with this Facebook posting about the incident. Read More >
Champion Speed Shop Top Fuel Team Wins March Meet for the First TimeBy Brian Lohnes Posted 03/09/10
One of the biggest stories to come out of the 52nd Bakersfield March Meet was the epic Top Fuel victory of the Champion Speed Shop Van Dyke Motorsports team. Aside from this being the first ever March Meet win for the long time AA/FA digger team, Adam Sorokin, son of 1966 March Meet Top Fuel winner Mike Sorokin, became the first son to follow his dad as a winner in the Top Fuel category. Incredible history, incredible car, incredible weekend. Read More >
