The culmination of both the California Hot Rod Reunion and the National Hot Rod Reunion is the famed “Cacklefest”. The Cacklefest is a celebration of drag racing history in living form, with a large amount of cars being both static and push started on the drag strip at the same time. The vast majority of the car are running large percentages of nitro and their owners have ‘em tuned to throw flames like crazy out of the zoomie pipes. Normally there are about twenty cars running at the same time making the kind of glorious racket that only old iron motors can make on nitro. Pure ground pounding thunder!
We were on the track, right in the thick of things shooting this gallery. There’s some neat stuff in here if we don’t say so ourselves and many famous cars from all over the country made the trip to Bowling Green, some even from as far as California. Don Garlits was the “key note” cackler again this year, rolling up the track last in his modern 392 hemi powered front engine slingshot. Gar had that baby sounding crisp and throwing header flames above the roll cage!
