Fun Video: Killer Vintage Camper For VW Beetles By Brian Lohnes Posted 02/05/10
File this one under, "ain't never seen that before", for us anyway. We were tipped off to this cool video featuring a camper from the mid 1970's designed for use by small cars. The totally awesome part about it is that when used with a VW Beetle, as the video shows, the car can turn 360 degrees around under the neck of the trailer. This is genius!
Even with the trailer's small size, it must have been miserable to tow with the VW. We get super annoyed when dragging junk with our OHC V8 Ford truck, so the little 60-odd horsepower VW motor must have really been working overtime to pull the car and the trailer up a hill.
The video is an excerpt from Bud Lindemann's show, aired in 1974. This should put a smile on your face!
Thanks to BangShift.com member Vegaman for the tip!

I wonder if any of those units are still in captivity or if they've all gone to see JW's Landlord.

Not that it would really make much difference ... the later Beetles (especially the Super version), sometimes referred to as "fat chicks" by VW owners, weight about 300 - 400 lbs. more than the earlier cars ... so that extra horsepower gained over the years is somewhat negated. It would definitely be slow as you know what, without some engine upgrades. :D

Discussion about those pops up occcasionally on the Samba website. At least with the 74 model as shown, you would have about 60 hp working for you. ;D

Best thing about this is you'll never return to the campground with groceries and find your trailer missing
