Video Bonanza: Burnout Fail! (You're Doing it Wrong)By Brian Lohnes Posted 02/18/10
After posting the tire explosion video earlier today, we were in the mood to find more videos of burnout related failures. As it turns out, searching for "tire explosion" on YouTube delivers many clips of people seating tires on wheels with flammable liquids and a match. That ends badly fairly often, but is not as fun to watch as these few clips we liked of actual power-burnout fails.
Watch a few times and you'll see this 1968 Camaro break an axle while doing a burnout on the street, then, um, watch to find out.
In this one, a little front-drive Neon bangs a clutch, through the hood.
If you thought only guys with front-drive Neons didn't know the difference between clutch smoke and tire smoke, try these guys with a brand new ZO6 Corvette. What's more amazing than the driver is the other guys who don't stop him, and maybe more amazing than that is the camera guy who keeps walking in front of the car.
This pocket-bike burnout is hysterical, mostly because these guys could have easily been Chad and Freiburger a couple years back.
Another two-wheeled burnout fail, this one not so funny. But you do need to pause a couple times to really see the poor guy on the second bike.
We're starting to think that the motorcycle guys are owning the world of stupid burnout failures.

I didn't realize the pocketbikes were back. They were really popular when I was in school in the 80's, Yamaha made one called the YSR, I want to say it was 50cc's, 2 stroke, and took all day to work up to speed. Could not get out of it's own way. But it was street legal. Whatever there might be today is certainly going to have more power...

Just recently, I've seen some Power Tour videos on YouTube for the first time, and the brazen burnout action is kinda overboard at some points. I guess it's cool that the local gendarmerie don't mind the tourists laying down a patch, but I'd have a problem with the motel parking lot too. Especially if my ride was in the lot, and my ass was in bed.
Today's videos prove a important point. Ownership does not equal competence, or good judgement.
