Video of the Week: Formula One WarmupBy Brian Lohnes Posted 01/22/09

All of us drag racing guys have been at the digs when the Fuel cars warm up. It’s awesome to run from trailer to trailer getting blasted in the face with nitro fumes. The sound of the big, hulking, blown Hemi cackling away and then being whacked a time or two to seat the clutch totally rules.

We’re going to the opposite end of the spectrum this week, with a Formula One car. Your guts aren’t going to shake, but your ears may shoot blood if the volume is turned up high enough.

This video shows a car up on the jacks being bounced off the rev limited to the delight of a crowd of onlookers. At full twist it sounds like the most pissed off air tool you’ve ever heard.

Take it or leave it, these small-displacement motors are chocked full of neat tech.

Crank up the volume if you dare, although the pitch of this thing may be high enough to send dogs running for cover.

You’ve been warned.

You have enough "issues" with unmarked interceptor Mustangs as it is...LMAO

Something tells me you'd make the 6 o'clock news for certain.

Spools up really fast. Love how bright the headers got. I'd kill to have that in the back of my wifes GMC  Safari for a day. The intersate that goes around Indy (I-465) would never be the same.

I'm gonna speculate that the car was still in "warmup enrichment" mode because no matter the coating, that's more exhaust heat than F1 cars run during a race...

That was my thought as well.....We used Inconel extensively on the Submarine, but even it has heat up and cool down rates that can not be exceeded without brittle fracture occurring.

They are even more incredible, to see how they do what they do.
The amount of downforce, and grip is just astounding.
And they make incredible power at astronoical rpm.

Yup, there is a footbridge that goes over part of the track where the cars come by at around 180 mph.  There is enough air coming off the rear wing to shake the bridge, even when it has 100 people standing on it.
