This coming Friday, the ever intrepid Dave Nutting and I will be at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut for the American LeMans Series race with the Corvette factory team, covering their battle against all comers on the historic road course. I have not been to Lime Rock in a few years, so I am really looking forward to it. The place is one of America’s true racing gems and lots of great history has gone down there.

When at the track for an SCCA race several years ago, I had my camera and captured the below photo of a racer trying to pull a “humpty dumpty” maneuver with his Corvette. As we were watching the race, we could see that the body had cracked just above the windshield and every time this hairy GT-1 Covette would thunder down Main Straight it seemed that the crack was getting larger and larger. We were right because on one of the following laps, the entire roof ripped completely off of the car, rendering it the only roadster in GT-1 competition. As you’d expect, officials black flagged the car and we caught the driver on pit row piecing his Corvette back together.

That’s the story…now we need some captions for this photo!
