BangShift reader Rich Hintze tipped us off to this custom built 1988 Caprice wagon for sale on CraigsList. The car is located in North Carolina and it seems as though it may stay there for a while with a price tag pushing nine thousand dollars. Just because we’re leery of the price doesn’t mean we’re down on the car because we aren’t. From the few photos on the ad, it seems to be a pretty well done job.
The builder used doors and quarter glass from a Caprice coupe and then kind of built the car off of them. The proportions to the car seem dead on. It is really reminiscent of a 1964 two door Chevelle wagon in size and shape. Things can get really weird when four doors are shrunk down to two door status and this car doesn’t look to suffer from the “shorty syndrome” that many cars do when they get cut in half and squashed back together.
The engine and transmission are stock. The driveshaft has obviously been shortened up and the seller says that interior and paint need to be done so that the car can be cruised. The tucked bumpers are cool, and wheels are good, the rear tailgate looks a little different, we’re not really into the LED style brake lights, and we’d jam a stock grill back into it so the car was “ours”. Overall this thing sure strikes us as a winner. What say you?
Sure the price is loopy, but the car is neat!
