George Poteet, in the Blowfish Plymouth Barracuda built by Rad Rides by Troy a few years ago, finally set a big record at last week's World of Speed at Bonneville, an event by the Utah Slat Flats Racers Association. The record is 291.841, but George's web site is reporting a top speed of 303 mph! Read More >
2009 Bonneville Speed Week: It's a WrapBy Chad Posted 08/14/2009
As the sun rose on the 7th day of racing at Speed Week 2009, hopes were high among teams, spectators, and SCTA officials alike that we would see a 400-mph measured mile from the Speed Demon streamliner. The Poteet and Main crew were smiling and hopeful, but certainly not cocky given their week-long parts breakage string. Read More >

There is only one day left at the SCTA/BNI Speed Week 2009, and although the number of cars is dwindling, the racing is just as fierce. We saw the Team Nish AA/Fuel Streamliner throw a rod out of the engine today in an attempt to beat the Poteet and Main Speed Demon's 387-MPH pass from Wednesday, and then a few hours later saw the Speed Demon make a 394-MPH pass to raise the bar even further. Video: We Interview George Poteet after he runs 401 MPH at BonnevilleBy Chad Posted 08/13/2009
BangShift.com man on the scene Chad Reynolds was at the 7 mile marker on Bonneville's famed speedway, when George Poteet took the Speed Demon D/Fuel Streamliner through the 5 mile at an average of 394 miles per hour with an exit speed of 401 miles per hour. We were right there when the car came to a stop to get all the info and reaction from George. As usual he was cool as a cucumber, and was ready to go faster. This pass has the highest recorded speed of the SCTA's 2009 Speed Week, and was incredible to watch. Check out the video below to see what Poteet and engine builder/tuner Ken Duttweiler had to talk about after this amazing pass. Read More >

The 2009 SCTA/BNI Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats is slowly drawing to a close as teams set records, blow up, or just plain fail. Meanwhile, the fastest cars of Bonneville are still in a fight for top time of the meet. On Tuesday, the Poteet and Main Speed Demon, which had been plagued with drivetrain issues, finally put together a solid run at 387 mph. Video: Gary Hart's 248-mph Studebaker Blows a Turbo at SpeedBy Chad Posted 08/11/2009
Blowing up a turbo isn't good. It's really not good at over 200 mph. Running a car at Bonneville Speedway is a lot like putting your engine through a 2-minute dyno pull, which means you have to have some durability to go with your horsepower. Gary Hart has always had the reliability and horsepower going for him thanks to a 515 inch World Products big-block Chevy that utilizes a couple of breathed-on Ford PowerStroke turbos, a Megasquirt EFI, and plenty of home grown ingenuity. What he was missing was oil pressure. Read More >

Poteet and Main Speed Demon Streamliner runs 387 at Bonneville Speedweek 2009By Chad Posted 08/11/2009
When we arrived at Bonneville Speedway on Saturday for the start of the 2009 SCTA/BNI Speed Week, it was no surprise that the team of Poteet and Main had the first car on the line to make a pass. With salt conditions even better than last year's once-in-a-lifetime surface, everyone in attendance was looking for big things, like a 400-mph pass. And the Poteet and Main D/Blown Gas Streamliner named Speed Demon did not disappoint, laying down a pass of 369 mph to start the week. This was enough to take and maintain the lead in the quest for the Hot Rod Top Time Trophy even though teams like Nish and Spirit of Rett were giving it their all. In fact, the Spirit of Rett team ran a 369 mph pass of their own, but it fell just .200 mph short of the Speed Demon. Read More >
