(Words and Photos by Greg Rourke) - This year was the 23rd year of the Waupun Truck-N-Show, held in Waupun, Wisconsin. Show trucks and working trucks from all over the US and Canada make the trip every year. This year maybe about 20 of the trucks were show only, the rest are out working hard every day. The event lasts 2 days. On Friday night they shut off all the street light along the parade route, and all the stores shut theirs off as well, and the trucks run the route displaying their “chicken lights”, as they call them. On Saturday there is the truck show at the community center, then another parade to end the event. The drivers have a riot, blasting train horns and hitting their engine brakes hard to the delight of the folks lining the route. Seems like most everyone in town has lawn chairs staking out shady spots along the route. Trucking is a hard life, but these guys are making the most of it.
Events like this are Americana at its best. All of these big working trucks shined to the nines and rolling proudly though a small town. What’s cooler than that?!
