The other day we asked you, “How much horsepower is ‘enough’?” The responses varied from pretty normal estimates of 400-500hp all the way to the guys who want a top fuel engine in their street rod. Well, we found a new video from California’s Nelson Racing Engines that splits that up nicely. In this 15-minute episode of Nelson Racing Engines TV we’re introduced to a 632ci V8 that is equipped with his “mirror image” turbos and the “alien” intake that NRE is famous for as well. The engine shrieks and roars like few others we have seen hooked to a dyno before. Then it gets really pissed off and just breaks the dyno.
The introduction tells us that this engine is destined for a customer in Australia. That guy is going to have one hell of a burnout machine, or if he has a full boogie drag race car, he’ll have something capable of running deep into the 6-second zone when all of that power is put the ground. As Nelson points out in the video, this engine was profiled in the most recent issue of Hot Rod Magazine. The turbos and intake are pretty slick if you ask us and we know that it ain’t cheap. The intake alone is $8,000, so we can only guess at how massive the price tag is for the whole engine. Six figures and them a few steak dinners probably.
