The zenith of the Chevy B-body was the 1996 Chevy Impala SS. With great looks, good grunt from an LT1 V8, four doors, and room for a small immigrant family in the trunk, they were the last of a breed for General motors. We’ve seen guys hot rod them with blowers and tweak suspension stuff here and there, but this car is on a totally different level. Fully caged, twice turbocharged, able to yank the front end at the drags and dip well into the 8-second zone, the owner claims it to be the world’s fastest 1996 Impala. This monster has actually gone 167mph in the quarter mile before!
The engine is based off of a Dart block and is force fed by twin T-76 turbochargers. The seller gives no details as to the internal makeup of the plant, but it has to be chock full of good parts to make the power necessary to have this huge car to speeds over 160mph in the quarter mile. The transmission is a Turbo 400, the EFI is handled by a FAST XFI system, allowing the owner to tweak and play with the tune up between rounds. We have no idea what is in the car for a rear end or very many other details because the seller left them out of the ad.
This car is outrageous and it rules all. Nothing this big should be this quick! Quick ain’t cheap, either. The seller is looking for $80,000.
