When BangShift reader Bruce Bridges sent us an email that said he had seen a cool old Plymouth wagon at a large used car dealer out in the California desert we thought it was interesting. When he said it was lettered up like a Don Garlits push car, we were on the case immediately. At first, when we looked at the photos it seemed pretty legit and then we got to thinking about how it always seemed like Garlits had a Dodge truck of some kind or another pushing him and that this wagon seemed to be a little too good to be true. So what did we do? We asked Don Garlits directly if this was an old push car of his. Here’s his response:

“I think it pushed me at a Cacklefest one time, a few years ago if that counts!”

So is the ad technically correct? Yes, it was a Garlits push car…at a cacklefest…a couple years ago. Not exactly worthy of the drag racing hall of fame if you ask us. We’re wondering how forthcoming the dealer would be if you called them us directly and asked what the actual history of the car is. If they went for a stroll down a fake memory lane with it, that would be lame. If they were straight up, good on them. As we said above, technically accurate? Sure. Light on details? You bet!
