(Photos by Bob Chiluk and Greg Rourke) – In the realm of drag racing history, they don’t get any more historic and/or cool than the World Series of Drag Racing held at Cordova Dragway Park in Illinois. The 2012 World Series of Drag Racing marked the 59th running of the event and it packed the house, as it always does. With Bret Kepner on the microphone calling the action, a huge field of nostalgia nitro funny cars, pro mods, nostalgia stocks, nostalgia top fuel dragsters, modern NHRA nitro floppers, sportsman action of all shapes and sizes, along with quality exhibition cars, it is one of drag racing’s last great totally independent shows.
Greg Rourke and Bob Chiluk were there and shot a great gallery of both action and pit photos from the race. The guys were right in the thick of the action on the starting line wall and hob knobbing with all the racers in the pits to get the best photos. If you’ve never treated yourself to an evening at a local strip when they’re putting on a match race, you are missing out on a quintessentially American experience. The 59th World Series of Drag Racing at Cordova Dragway Park was a smashing success and that means the 60th should be a riot and a half. Make plans now to be there at what will most definitely be one of the summer’s biggest shows held on one of the country’s most historic and cool strips.
Huge thanks to Bob and Greg for these KILLER photos from the 59th World Series of Drag Racing at Cordova Dragway Park – 2012
