We’ve all seen the videos of rear ends completely breaking free from drag cars, launching them into the air and smashing back down to Earth. This video is different from those in the fact that the housing stays in the car but the driver’s side axle breaks and the massive rear slick literally tears the rear quarter panel and trunk off of the car in just a few tenths of a second.
Filmed at Ohio’s Dragway 42, the Camaro completes a burnout with no problem and then stages to launch down the track. As soon as the driver lets go of the transbrake button, the poop literally his the fan. Thankfully the driver reacted quickly enough to prevent the car from hitting the guard wall as it tries to rotate 90-degrees to the left when the tire exits the program. The cool part about this footage is that we see in-car, out of car, and slo-mo tape of this failure.
