While shooting texts back and forth over the weekend with my pal Jon Wall, he tipped me off to what has to be the coolest Top Dragster machine in the country, Alan O’Brien’s twin turbo, 481″ AMC powered rail. The car itself is a 270″ dragster built by RaceTech Race Cars and the engine is based off of an Indy block and cylinder heads. The car was built back in 2011 and he has been wailing on it ever since. As best we can tell, the quickest he has gone is 6.04 and the best MPH is around 236 MPH.
In this video you’ll see the car down down into the 6.30s on what has to be a conservative tune up. We think that is to beyond cool that O’Brien is running this combo and as best we can tell, no one has ever been quicker or faster with an AMC powered vehicle. Noted engine builder Barry Allen is the guy who gets credit for putting this combo together. While the car has not been in the low 6.0s in a little while (as best we know), since it has been that fast in the past, we’re thinking that a five second time slip may not be out of the question at some point in the future. Anyone who is able to turn a five second pass in a dragster with AMC power is a bonafide bad ass.
Press play below and watch 481ci of AMC twin turbo power go to work!
