Truly Custom: Watch Don Groff Run His Custom Built Toyota 1JZ V12 Powered Open Wheel Car On The Dyno

Don Groff is a BangShift hall of fame level hero. The man built a one off twin turbocharged V12 engine by mating two Toyota 1JZ inline six engines together. As if that were not enough, Groff then went to the next level of bad ass by placing the engine in a chassis of his design and construction that looks like a slightly more beefy version of a 1960s or early 1970s Formula One Grand Prix car. It’s a project that you can totally see more of across the internet in all of its different states of build but for today’s purposes, this is going to be all about the (almost?) finished product hitting the engine dyno and making some horsepower.

We’ll tell you right now that this engine made 800+ hp during this very first session and we know that there’s likely double or even triple that left to make depending on how saucy Groff gets with the boost controller. The fact is that the engine runs like a top and this car with 800hp is going to be completely insane, let lone the same car with more!

You’ll see before one of the pulls that the nose rotates up so the driver can get in. It’s actually really a neat design and while not easy, it makes getting in and out less ridiculous. Admire the car, the sounds, and the performance here!

Press play to see Don Groff’s incredible 1JZ V12 powered car run on the dyno!
